Health authorities on Sunday said 44 more Covid-19 fatalities and 5,916 new transmissions around Thailand occurred on Saturday, bringing the accumulated toll to 2,225 deaths and the number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 283,067.
In the afternoon briefing, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said 30 fatalities had been reported in Bangkok, three in Samut Prakan and two each in Yala and Nakhon Pathom.
The remainder comprised one case each in Khon Kaen, Chachoengsao, Pathum Thani, Narathiwat, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ayutthaya and Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The capital led new transmissions with 1,498 cases, followed by Pathum Thani (458), Samut Prakan (412), Samut Sakhon (395) and Chon Buri (275).
Covid infections were also found in four Thais returning from Cambodia — one of them an illegal entrant – along with two Kuwaitis.
