Thai media threatens tourists with the ‘GODFATHER’

Thai media reported that the mayor of Saen Suk district responsible for Bang Saen district had blown a fuse on social media after vandals damaged a number of tables and seats at the beach.

He is part of an ‘influential’ family well known in Thailand.

Narongchai Khunpluem said that the people responsible were probably drunk and lamented the fact that CCTV was not installed there yet.

77kaoded suggested that tourists were responsible and went to the scene to investigate.

Some repairs had been made and some damaged items had been taken away as evidence.

Local seafood seller Patchamon, 44, reckoned those responsible had been drinking there at night. She had never seen the like of it.

There were bottles of Lao Khao (a Thai white spirit) found smashed at the scene.

However, the presence of Lao Khao suggests drunk Thais are responsible as it is not something any non-local or self-respecting tourist would ever drink.

77 Kaoeded also suggested the people responsible may have angered the wrong person.

Mayor Narongchai is part of the family of former Saen Suk mayor Somchai Khunpluem known as “Kamnan Poh” or the “Godfather of Chonburi” who died last year.

He was convicted in 2004 of having a man shot and later jumped bail.

Another member of the family is Sontaya Khunpluem, the mayor of Pattaya since 2018 and a political adviser of Thai prime minister Prayut Chan-ocha.
