Thai Man With Decorated Motorcycle and Large Snake Turns Himself In to Pattaya Police
A man dressed in monk-like attire, seen riding a decorated motorcycle with a large snake around his neck in a viral video, has turned himself in to Banglamung police. His unusual stunt on Pattaya’s Sukhumvit Road had sparked public concern.
On March 18th, the man, identified as Mr. Prasert, reported to the police along with his motorcycle after the video gained widespread attention on Thai social media. Addressing the misconceptions, he clarified that he is not a Buddhist monk, as some had assumed.
Mr. Prasert explained that he was simply a domestic tourist traveling by motorcycle from Rayong to Chonburi. The decorations on his bike, including flowers, amulets, and red fabric, were collected from spirit shrines and cemeteries he visited along the way. He stated that he believes in sacred objects and used them as ornaments.
Regarding his attire, which resembled a monk’s robe, Mr. Prasert clarified that the fabric is commonly wrapped around sacred trees as an offering. He chose to wear it for its comfort and quick-drying properties. As for the snake draped around his neck, he revealed it was a ball python—a legally permitted pet species imported from abroad.
Following his explanation, Banglamung police issued a warning and instructed Mr. Prasert to remove the decorations from his motorcycle and wear regular clothing to prevent further misunderstandings. He was also fined under the Traffic Act.
