Thai man caught randomly stabbing female uni student with screwdriver

Huai Khwang police confirmed yesterday that they arrested an elderly man who stabbed a female university student in the leg with a screwdriver near Big C Ratchada supermarket, following the victim’s viral Facebook post in which described the random attack.

The man was identified as Jarungjit Jainakrop, 61, an apartment security guard. Police said he has not only admitted to stabbing the student, but several others in the past two months.

The student, named Kamonchanok, said that the man stabbed her with a sharp tool when she simply walked past him on Thursday. At the time, she did not know it was a screwdriver and only noted that the sharp tool was covered in a towel and the stabbing left her with a small bleeding wound in her leg.

She also shared photos of the man holding a blue towel.

After tracking him down using CCTV footage, police arrested Jarungjit at his rented room in the Din Daeng area, Daily News reported.

According to Pol. Pakin Kraikittichan, Jarungjit claimed he was constantly paranoid, especially when someone walked too close to him. As he was afraid of being hurt, he always carried a screwdriver wrapped in a towel.

Jarungjit would randomly stab people who walked past him. He has admitted to doing this many times in the past two months.

Police said Jarungjit doesn’t have records of mental illness. He has been charged with assault, and police are encouraging other victims to come forward to file their case at Huai Khwang police station.
