Thai Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Karaoke Bars in Bangkok
Bangkok, March 7, 2025 — Thai labor officials raided seven karaoke bars in Bangkok’s Khlong San district following reports of illegal foreign workers providing entertainment services to customers.
During the operation, authorities discovered that the establishments employed foreign women dressed provocatively to entertain patrons illegally. A total of 30 individuals were arrested, including four Thai nationals, one Myanmar national, and 25 Lao nationals.
Investigators found that three of the businesses were foreign-owned, with all staff—from cooks to servers—working without proper permits. Additionally, none of the seven bars possessed valid operating licenses.
All suspects admitted to the charges. Bar owners face legal action for operating without a license and employing foreign workers illegally, while the workers were charged with working without permits. The arrested individuals were taken to Samdet Chao Phraya Police Station for further legal proceedings.
