Current undisputed ONE featherweight MMA champion Tang Kai is aware of the formidable challenge posed by fifth-ranked contender Akbar Abdullaev in their upcoming title fight on January 10 at ONE Fight Night 27. Tang will defend his 26-pound golden belt for the second time at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
In a recent interview with ONE Championship, Tang acknowledged that both he and Abdullaev possess significant knockout power. However, he believes the outcome of their championship bout will hinge on who can deliver a cleaner strike first. “I think we both are good strikers and we each have knockout power, but the key is who can find their timing first,” he explained.
Tang boasts an impressive promotional record of eight wins with a 63% finish rate. His most recent victory came against former ONE featherweight champion Thanh Le, whom he defeated via TKO in their rematch at ONE 166: Qatar in March 2024.
Recognizing the pressure of being the champion, the 28-year-old representative of Sunkin International Fight Club is committed to honing his skills to defend his title. “Since the day I got the belt, I’ve known my opponents would become stronger, and I am improving myself every day as well. This is what a champion should do,” he stated.
For those in North America, the action at ONE Fight Night 27 can be watched live with an active Prime Video subscription.
