Swiss Man Arrested After Chaotic Pursuit in Chumphon; Drug Use Discovered
A dramatic incident unfolded in Chumphon on January 17, 2025, involving a Swiss man and his Thai wife, culminating in police intervention and subsequent drug charges.
Police were alerted to a speeding black pickup truck in Lang Suan district, where witnesses reported seeing a woman, identified as 40-year-old Ms. Lamai, attempting to jump from the vehicle while shouting for help. According to onlookers, the driver, later identified as 37-year-old Swiss national Sandro, had allegedly forced his wife into the vehicle against her will. The couple’s child was also in the car.
Video footage showed Lamai opening the passenger door in a bid to escape as the vehicle sped along the road. Rescue workers witnessed the commotion and alerted police, following the vehicle until it was intercepted in Pathio district.
After police stopped the truck, Lamai revealed the argument stemmed from her husband’s jealousy, which had escalated into a heated altercation. She admitted to having consumed wine during the ordeal but denied the presence of any weapons.
Authorities soon became suspicious of drug use when they detected a strong odor from the vehicle. Urine tests on both individuals came back positive for methamphetamine, and further tests at Pathio Hospital confirmed the results.
Sandro and Lamai admitted to using methamphetamine to relieve physical pain, with their last use occurring on the day of the incident. Sandro has been charged with unauthorized drug use, and Lamai faces similar charges.
The couple was transferred to Pathio Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
