Summer storms set to cool Thailand down for a few days

Summer storms set to cool Thailand down for a few days from the sweltering temperatures during this year’s summer season.

Between 12-15 May, Thailand’s Meteorological Department has warned that summer storms, strong winds and even hail is expected throughout most of the country.

While temperatures will remain, the expected summer storms will make it feel a little cooler, albeit briefly.

The Lower North Northeastern, Central, Eastern and Southern regions, as well as Bangkok,  are likely to be affected, Met Department said.

Residents have been urged to monitor weather forecasts and prepare for possible damage to property.

Northern provinces, such as Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, Uttaradit, Nan, Phichit, Phitsanulok,

Phetchabun, Sukhothai, Tak and Kamphaeng Phet, will remain hot with temperatures in the daytime expected to reach between 36-42 C, with only a 30 percent chance of storms.

Northeastern provinces, such as Loei, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani face thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain with maximum temperatures between 30-35 C.

Central provinces, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Sing Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Saraburi, forecast thunderstorms, strong winds with maximum temperatures between 34-36 C.

Eastern provinces, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, thunderstorms, strong winds, with waves at over 2 metres, maximum temperature 32-36 C.

Southeast provinces, Surat Thani Province Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat where heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast, maximum temperature 31-37 C, wave height between 12 metres.

Southwest provinces, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Trang, Krabi and Satun, cloudy with thundershowers and isolated heavy rain. Maximum temperatures 30-31 C. Wave height about 2-3 meters.

Bangkok, hot with thunderstorms, maximum temperature 34-38 C.
