At 9pm, on the evening of Dec 18, Pattaya police received reports of a shooting at the SK Apartments on Soi Sukhumvit 49, Pattaya.
In room 205 investigators found a 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun and a pool of blood on the ground.
The victim was Pol Sgt Somphol Pattanalamphu, Squad Leader of the Crime Suppression Unit at Banglamung Station, who had shot himself in the neck. He was rushed to Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital and is now under the close supervision of a medical team.
Police said the victim was a popular figure who lived with his girlfriend, twenty-nine year old Ms Pannawadee Tonekaew.
Witnesses said that before the shooting there had been an argument and Ms Pannawadee had indicated she was leaving the relationship because the victim was married and had a family. She had told witnesses she was ‘tired of being a gik.’
The victim then began drinking and then placed his gun to his temple suggesting he was going to shoot himself in the head.
Ms Pannawadee tried to grab the gun to prevent him from doing so and in the struggle the victim shot himself in the neck instead of the head.
