Starving crowds told to go home as City Hall cancels handout

Starving crowds

Thai media reported that large crowds had gathered in the Thepprasit area of Pattaya to receive handouts of essential basic food items like rice.

But City Hall arrived and told the hungry people to go home because they were not social distancing.

The organisers had not told the authorities about the event either.

77kaoded went to the area and found officials from City Hall milling about with other authorities. It was confirmed that the crowd had been moved on with the help of the police.

Some people who had been left disappointed condemned the move and said they were hungry.

Some said they didn’t need ready-made meals but rice and dry goods so they can cook themselves and have a supply of food for many days.
