Speeding SUV Crashes into Motorcycle in Pattaya, Killing One and Severely Injuring Another
A tragic accident occurred late at night in Pattaya when a speeding SUV, driven by a British-Thai national, crashed into a motorcycle, killing one rider and leaving another severely injured.
Nongprue police received a report of a head-on collision on Noen Plub Wan Road near Soi Mab Yai Lia. Police officers and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation swiftly responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered a severely damaged bronze Toyota Fortuner, driven by 19-year-old British-Thai national Mr. Lewis. The SUV had collided with a red Yamaha Grand Filano motorcycle, which was completely wrecked and had been dragged over 100 meters.
The motorcyclist, 19-year-old Ms. Kulthida Boonyarit, sustained critical injuries, while the second unidentified rider suffered severe injuries, including a severed left leg. Rescue workers provided immediate first aid before transporting both victims to the hospital. Sadly, one of them later succumbed to their injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that the SUV was speeding and honking continuously before the crash. As the vehicle reached the accident site, it struck the motorcycle with a loud impact, dragging both riders and their vehicle for several meters. Concerned bystanders immediately alerted the authorities.
CCTV footage from the area captured the shocking moment of impact, showing the Fortuner overtaking other vehicles at high speed before colliding with the motorcycle head-on. Another camera recorded the exact moment of the crash, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
Mr. Lewis was detained for an alcohol test, which returned negative results. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage and gathering further evidence to proceed with legal action. Mr. Lewis has not provided a statement to the press at this time.
