Special celebrations planned for Thailands King’s 66th birthday next month

The government has planned week-long celebrations for HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 66th Birthday.

The monarch will turn 66 on July 28. “The celebrations will run from July 22 to July 28,” PM’s Office Minister Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana said yesterday. Suwaphan said a parade and a ceremony to express best wishes to the king would take place on July 28.

“The prime minister will represent Thai people in delivering the Happy Birthday message,” he said. He added that the government had also planned to hold an exhibition on the king’s initiative to encourage volunteer activities for good causes. “People who have joined these activities can send photos of their participation as we will feature some photos in the upcoming exhibition,” he said. Suwaphan added that between July 27 and 28, the government would also organise a variety of activities in honour of the king. “For example, people may have their electrical appliances repaired for free at the Fix It Centre, to be operated by vocational students,” he said. He added that there would be classes on flower-garland making, souvenir making, Thai-dessert cooking, fabric-dye for members of the public. “Also include are cultural shows and entertainment,” he said. Suwaphan said the celebrations for the king would be held both in Bangkok and provinces. He urged Thais to do good deeds in honour of the king for his birthday. NTN – EP
