Songkran starts early in Pattaya

With temperatures climbing, Pattaya City’s locals and international visitors have jumpstarted the Songkran festivities, Thailand’s renowned water festival, days before the official start. The lively celebrations kicked off in the vibrant lanes of Soi 7 and Soi 8, alongside Beach Road, where beer bar operators and their staff teamed up with foreign tourists to partake in the spirited tradition of water splashing.

Anticipating the week-long Songkran revelry in Pattaya, numerous establishments along Pattaya Beach Road have been seen gearing up with an assortment of water-dispensing equipment, including large buckets and water cannons. These preparations not only enhance the enjoyment for employees and tourists but also provide street vendors with the opportunity to sell water guns and protective cases to visitors in the area.

While the traditional Songkran events in Pattaya City are scheduled to commence on April 18th with the Wan Lai Na Kluea tradition, followed by the main Pattaya festival on April 19th, during which Beach Road will be closed, the early start of water festivities reflects the community’s enthusiasm for embracing the refreshing spirit of the festival. The Wan Lai celebrations are anticipated to attract countless participants, with tens of thousands of Thai and international tourists expected to converge on the city for the joyous water-splashing jubilee.
