Songkhla drug suspect arrested after making wrong turn into temple full of police officers

A suspected drug user tried to flee from a patrol policeman by riding his motorcycle into a Hat Yai temple on Tuesday, only to be arrested by a large group of police officers manning the funeral of the father of a former Songkhla MP.

Sutthirak Boonlert, 30, an employee of a vehicle showroom in Songkhla’s Hat Yai district, tried to escape the pursuing patrolman by riding his motorbike into Wat Khuan Lung on Phetkasem Road, where to his dismay he was surrounded by police officers.

The temple was holding a funeral service for the father of Thavorn Senniam, a former MP and ex-deputy interior minister.

Police said they found 10 methamphetamine pills on Sutthirak.

The man told them that he was returning to his office after buying the drugs for his own use. He became frightened when he saw the patrol policeman on a motorcycle and tried to flee, but made the wrong decision by turning into a temple that happened to be full of police officers.
