Soccer Player Bashed To Death After Making On-Field Error That Caused Opposition To Score

A soccer player has been bashed to death in Uganda after making a costly on-field error.

Churchill Owaci was playing in the Lamwo District and made a ‘defensive blunder’, according to 7News, that allowed the other team to score.

A witness reportedly claims the error was caused by Owaci drinking alcohol the night before.

Whenever one of your teammates lets in a goal, it can be easy to want to tell them off. However, Owaci’s fellow players immediately attacked him on the field to the point that officials had to pull them off the 22-year-old.

The young footballer was said to have been badly injured in the on-field attack. The chairperson of the Agoro Sub County Denis Onyon says the game resumed after the dramatic blowup was contained.

Once the match was over, Owaci resumed the biff with his fellow teammates and pushed one of them off their bike.

Chairperson Onyon released a statement, saying: “Later after the game, the deceased in a revenge act pushed one of the people that had earlier beaten him, from the bicycle which provoked another fight.

“The deceased collapsed a few metres away from the fight scene and was rushed to Agoro Health Centre III, where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.”

Police have opened a murder investigation and two brothers have been arrested as part of that inquiry.

Aswa River Region police spokesperson Jimmy Okema said the suspects, one of whom is aged just 19, are currently held at Lamwo central police station.
