SOAPY owners – close or face jail

SOAPY

This is the message from Bangkok’s governor General Asawin Kwanmuang. He has warned soapy massage places and bar owners that they will face heavy fines, or even jail time if they do not listen to the rules to close.

There has also been a clear warning to the police that this rule applies also to those that are responsible for ensuring that these bans are effective.

For 14 days, six different types of establishments have been ordered to close till the end of the month in a bid to try and curb the spread of the coronavirus in the city.

The establishments include soapy massage, entertainment venues, spas and herbal treatments, movie theatres and theatres, fitness centres and all related boxing activities.

Businesses have also been ordered to do a deep clean and be ready to re-open.

However, the ban will be extended if necessary the general noted. Anyone seen ignoring the ban can be fined up to 100.000 Baht or jailed up to a year or in some cases both.

The governor has called on all those responsible to enforce the ban to do their job.

The general has also asked the public to postpone weddings and ordinations, though funerals can still go ahead.
