A Russian tourist has been accused of stealing a jet-ski from Bang Tao Beach in Cherng Talay, according to a local jet-ski operator.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday when the man, identified as Mr. Mikhail, went for a swim at the beach. Witnesses claim that he initially climbed onto a speedboat near the shore without the operator’s permission. After being asked to get off, he allegedly proceeded to board a parked jet-ski and rode it out to sea.
Staff members from the jet-ski operation followed him and requested that he return to the beach. Police were called to the scene, but no immediate arrest was made. Officers reportedly told the operator that the man was “just being mischievous.”
Operator Files Official Complaint
Dissatisfied with the response, the jet-ski operator filed a formal report at the Cherng Talay Police Station, citing the unauthorized use of their property.
Police have since confirmed they are investigating the incident. “Although no damage was reported, unauthorized use of property is a serious matter,” said a representative from the Cherng Talay Police.
Tourism Concerns
The incident has sparked discussions about the behavior of tourists in Phuket, a popular destination for international visitors. Local operators have called for stricter measures to address such incidents, which they say disrupt business and tarnish the area’s reputation.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have stated they will determine appropriate actions based on the evidence and statements collected.
