Ruben Amorim expressed his frustration after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw at Liverpool, stating he felt “mad and upset” because his players had not consistently demonstrated the same fighting spirit in previous matches.
In the match, United initially took the lead with a goal from Lisandro Martinez, but Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah quickly responded. Despite this, Amad Diallo managed to equalize with a goal in the 80th minute.
While United showed improvement compared to recent performances, Amorim was disappointed and urged his team to use this result as a stepping stone for future games. “I get more mad because of the other games,” he explained. “This isn’t just about system or technique; it’s about something deeper.”
Amorim continued, “I’m upset today, truly upset. While I appreciate the performance, everyone will say we did well. Today, I’m the only one allowed to be upset with the team, even though we functioned as a unit.”
He noted that while there were good performances recently, consistency remains an issue. “After winning against Manchester City, we had a similar conversation. I want my team to perform better, but today’s key focus is on mentality—it’s essential for everything.”
Captain Bruno Fernandes echoed Amorim’s sentiments, stating, “We’ve faced criticism—rightfully so—given our position in the table. We’ve dropped too many points. We can’t be satisfied with a draw, as we need the points more than they do.”
Fernandes acknowledged the quality of the match and the intensity from both sides but expressed disappointment, highlighting the inconsistency. “If we can perform like this against Liverpool at Anfield, why can’t we do this every week?” he asked.
