Roaring Pet Lion in Pattaya Sparks Fear and Complaints from Residents

PATTAYA – Residents in the Pratumnak area were left shaken after the loud roaring of a 2-year-old male lion echoed throughout the night, disrupting sleep and causing widespread concern. The unsettling noise originated from a house located between Soi 5 and Soi 6, across from the Art Condo Hill.

Concerned citizens, both locals and tourists, contacted Pattaya City Police Station after the continuous roars sparked fear in the neighborhood. Responding to the complaints, police officers visited the property, where they confirmed that the disturbance was indeed coming from the lion kept on the premises. Despite attempts to reach the owner, authorities were unable to make contact.

This property had previously gained attention when a foreign man was spotted driving around Pattaya with a lion in a convertible sports car, leading to an earlier inspection by police and park authorities. While owning a lion is legal in Thailand with proper permits, the incident has reignited concerns over the safety and appropriateness of keeping exotic animals in residential areas.

Authorities plan to escalate the issue to higher officials and work with relevant agencies to find a resolution. They aim to ensure both public safety and animal welfare while addressing residents’ concerns about the ongoing disruptions.
