Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first photos from Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sequel to the 2000 epic “Gladiator” in a feature piece by Vanity Fair. These images precede the film’s trailer release on Tuesday, July 9th.
The photos showcase actors Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal, who appear to clash in the arena. Mescal stars as the adult version of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen, also featured in the photos) from the original film.
Pascal plays a conflicted general. Additionally, Denzel Washington appears as a former gladiator holding a grudge and manipulating events behind the scenes. Other notable appearances include Joseph Quinn as the ruthless Emperor Geta and Fred Hechinger as his more subdued brother, Geta. The brothers co-ruled Rome in the early 3rd century AD until Caracalla ordered Geta’s assassination.
The film also stars Djimon Hounsou, Matt Lucas, Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, May Calamawy, Tim McInnerny, and Derek Jacobi. With a budget of around $300 million and a script by David Scarpa, “Gladiator 2” promises some of the most extensive action sequences ever filmed.
“Gladiator 2” is scheduled for international release on November 15th and will debut in U.S. theaters on November 22nd.
