schools

Private International Schools received an urgent letter yesterday telling them to prepare for a possible re-opening of their schools on 1st June.

Included were a list of measures to be taken to ensure the health & safety of students & faculty. here are the highlights.

Travel history of the past 14 days of everyone must be collected
The school must be adjusted for social distancing of not less than 1 meter between persons
There must be washbasins or hand gel available around the school
Everyone must wear a mask at all times
Temperature must be taken of everyone. If 37.5°C or above cannot enter
Anyone with symptoms like cough or sneezing cannot enter
Large classes should be split up or classes should attend on a rotation
Arrival and finishing times, and break times should be staggered
Any shared resources like toys must be cleaned before and after use
All after school activities and tutorials are cancelled
No meetings with large groups of people
No team sports or close contact sports
Avoid using air-con for more than two hours at a time.

Q: I got a job as a teacher at an international school in Bangkok but I am still abroad. Will they allow me in?
A: There are many people in the same position as you. As you don’t have a work permit yet, it is unlikely that they will let you in among the first group of foreigners.

Q: My international school breaks up at the end of July. Will there be an issue if I go home to America for the summer holiday?
A: I would strongly advise you not to, as it might be difficult to get back. Apart from a 14-day quarantine, they may blacklist visitors from the US.
