Polish Tourist Arrested for Sexual Harassment in Sathorn Convenience Store

Metropolitan Police have arrested a Polish national, identified as Mr. Piotr, 31, for allegedly sexually harassing a Thai woman in a convenience store in Bangkok’s Sathorn district. The suspect, who initially dismissed the incident as “a minor issue,” now faces charges under Thai law.

The victim, identified only as Ms. A, reported to Thung Mahamek Police Station that the foreign man forcefully slapped her bottom while she was shopping. Initially mistaking the act for a friend’s prank, she realized the offender was a stranger, leaving her humiliated in front of other customers and store staff. After consulting acquaintances about her legal rights, she decided to file a formal police complaint.

Police summoned Mr. Piotr through his accommodation agent, but he refused to appear, dismissing the incident by stating, “I didn’t hit hard, and I’ve done this many times at entertainment venues without complaints. I didn’t do anything wrong.” He further claimed that such actions weren’t illegal and expressed his intent to leave Thailand soon.

This response prompted Ms. A to pursue legal action. Mr. Piotr was subsequently arrested at his condominium on Narathiwat Ratchanakarin Road. He admitted to being the man seen in CCTV footage but maintained that he didn’t respond to police summons because he deemed the matter trivial.

Police Major General Theeradej Thammasuthee, Commander of the Investigation Division, emphasized the importance of respecting Thai laws and culture, stating that acts of indecency, regardless of nationality, carry severe consequences under Thai law, including a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment.

The police have also urged potential victims of the suspect to come forward through the Metropolitan Police Investigation Division’s IDMB page, assuring that all reports will be thoroughly investigated.
