A tragic incident at Surin Hospital ended with the death of a 27-year-old patient, Apichai, who had been recovering from surgery. The event unfolded on the hospital’s fourth floor when the patient, armed with a firefighter’s axe, caused panic by threatening medical staff and other patients.
Police were called to the scene, and two patrol officers arrived to manage the situation. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Apichai reportedly advanced toward the officers, prompting them to open fire. He was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
In the aftermath, a formal complaint has been lodged, leading to a criminal investigation into the actions of the responding officers. Mueang Surin Police Chief Weerapan na Lampang has assured the public that the inquiry will be thorough, impartial, and fair, as reported by the Bangkok Post.
