POLICE ARRESTED ‘M 16’ TEACHER

Police and soldiers yesterday (Dec 21) arrested a secondary education school teacher in Bung Kan province after several firearms and ammunition were found in his home in So Phisai district.

The teacher was identified as Uthis Meetaowal, 53, a teacher on military education and training at Ponthong Prachasan school at Tambon Nong Panta in So Phisai district. The search of his home followed complaints by neighbours that they heard gunshot sounds daily at the compound of his home in the rubber plantation. He was found at home in green fatigue when soldiers and police arrived at his rubber plantation.

A search in his home produced one M16 assault rifle and ammunition, a .223 rifle, a .45 Colt pistol,a .357 Smith&Wesson revolver, a 9mm CZ pistol, a .32 Llama revolver, a sawn-off shot gun, two home-made handguns, smoke grenade and several sizes of handgun cartridges. Investigation by police showed some of the firearms in his possession were pawned with him by both Thai and Laotian people.

Investigators are looking into documents if any firearms in his possession legally belonged to him or other owners. But the possession of M16 assault rifle is not permitted by law and he could face serious charge of having war weapon in possession. Source: Thai PBS
