Pattaya police have arrested 17 Chinese nationals for operating an illegal cross-border loan shark operation from luxury villas in the city. The bust occurred on November 27, targeting a group of Chinese men running a large-scale loan shark network from villas located in the Pratumnak Hill area of South Pattaya.
Acting on a search warrant from the Pattaya Provincial Court, authorities raided two rented villas, where they detained 17 Chinese individuals. According to the police, the suspects were administrators for a vast loan shark network that catered to thousands of clients in China, with an estimated cash flow exceeding 135 million baht. The administrators earned monthly salaries of approximately 100,000 baht, not including additional commissions based on the volume of loans they distributed and the debts they recovered. The police are continuing their investigation and aiming to apprehend other members of the network.
