Eight individuals, including four police officers and a paramilitary ranger, have been arrested in Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani province for their alleged involvement in the abduction of seven Chinese nationals for ransom.
Authorities were alerted to the case by a Laotian individual via Facebook, who reported that the Chinese nationals had been kidnapped on January 23 and taken to a resort in Phibun Mangsahan district.
The abductors allegedly demanded a ransom of five million baht but later reduced the amount to three million baht after negotiations. The gang reportedly forced one of the hostages to contact friends in Laos to secure the funds.
The case is under investigation, with authorities vowing to pursue justice and hold those involved accountable.
