Plane Crash at South Korean Airport Claims 47 Lives

At least 47 people have died after a plane carrying 181 passengers crashed at Muan International Airport in South Korea. The aircraft went off the runway and collided with a wall during its landing, according to reports from the country’s fire service and Yonhap news agency.

The ill-fated Jeju Air flight, returning to Korea from Bangkok, Thailand, had 175 passengers and six crew members on board. So far, two survivors have been located, and rescue operations are still underway, as emergency services work to reach those trapped in the tail section of the aircraft.

According to reports, the passenger list included 173 South Koreans and two Thais. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined; however, local media have speculated that it could involve birds interfering with the plane’s systems. Unverified social media footage appears to show the aircraft skidding off the runway and crashing into a wall, with part of the plane engulfed in flames. Other videos depict a large plume of black smoke rising into the sky.

One flight attendant and one passenger have been rescued, as stated by South Korea’s fire agency, which has deployed around 80 firefighters and more than 30 fire trucks to the crash site.
