Pattaya Mayor Launches Initiative to Address Homelessness and Social Issues
In a bid to enhance Pattaya’s image as a world-class tourist destination, Mayor Poramet Ngamphichet has directed local authorities to tackle pressing social issues, including homelessness, begging, and human trafficking.
The mayor has tasked the Social Welfare Division, Social Assistance Department, and the City Hall’s Peacekeeping Unit to collaborate with the Chonburi Homeless Protection Center in addressing these challenges. Teams have begun on-the-ground operations in key areas such as Pattaya Beach Road, Jomtien Beach, Dong Tan Beach, and Yinyom Beach to help organize and assist the homeless population and street dwellers.
Focus on a Clean and Welcoming Environment
Mayor Poramet stressed the importance of maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for both residents and tourists. He believes that addressing these issues is essential for preserving Pattaya’s reputation as a top tourist destination.
Community Involvement and Reporting
The mayor urged the public to play a role in the initiative by reporting instances of begging, human trafficking, or other social problems. Citizens are encouraged to contact the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security hotline at 1300, available 24/7, for assistance.
This initiative is part of Pattaya’s broader efforts to promote sustainable tourism and improve the quality of life for all who live in or visit the city.
