According to immigration officers who are intensifying their crackdown on foreigners residing in the country illegally, a Nigerian man arrested on Thursday for overstaying his visa also had cocaine in his possession.
Anamere George, 26, was arrested at 1.30pm on the road to the Baan Suan Loch Palm housing complex in Kathu district, according to Phuket immigration police commander Pol Col Thanes Sukchai. He had been overstaying his visa for three years and ten months.
According to authorities, a small amount of cocaine was also discovered on him.
Mr George was charged with overstaying his visa and unlawful narcotics possession and would be deported after legal proceedings, according to the officer.
Pol Col Thanes stated that the crackdown on overstayers began last month and would continue this month with the assistance of tourist police.
