A collision between a speeding biker and a pickup truck style vehicle carrying numerous people in the rear of the truck this morning, August 12th, 2023, injured seven people and killed one.
The collision occurred at 3:00 a.m. on the Nong Ket Yai Railway Road near Moo 8. Following the initial urgent notice of the accident, Sawang Boriboon Rescue teams, Banglamung Hospital medical professionals, and The Pattaya News hurried to the scene.
Seven victims were discovered spread across the roadway with various injuries and were immediately treated by emergency personnel and sent to local hospitals.
One person was killed instantly, the rider of a Honda CPR 650, also known as a “big bike” in Thailand. Mr. Nonthapong Wongkaew, 30, was identified.
Mr. Surapat Ketdee, 37, the truck’s driver, who was not hurt, stated that the people in his truck were returning after selling noodles at a temple fair and market.
He claimed that Nonthapong, the motorbike rider, attempted to overtake them but instead smashed into the truck, triggering the crash and forcing the truck to roll over many times.
Deputy Inspector General of Investigation Pol. Capt. Wongsathorn Makkanan told The Pattaya News that an initial CCTV review appeared to match Surapat’s assertions.
As of press time, the injured were still being treated in a local hospital. Most had escaped with very minor injuries.
