Police and PEA Officials Seize Nearly 1,000 Bitcoin Mining Machines in Chon Buri
Authorities from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) conducted a raid today on a company in Chon Buri’s Phanat Nikhom district, uncovering a large-scale Bitcoin mining operation.
The investigation was triggered by unusually high electricity consumption in the area that did not align with reported revenues. PEA officials discovered tampered electricity meters, prompting a complaint to the CIB.
During the raid, 996 Bitcoin mining machines, along with four computers, three routers, and additional equipment, were seized. Officials estimate the electricity theft, dating back to June 2023, has cost approximately 110 million baht.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities working to identify those responsible for the operation.
