Soldiers, police and municipal officials were scouring a Koh Samui beach on Wednesday morning after a Facebook user posted a video of brackish wastewater running into the sea.
They found no trace on Laem Son Beach of the sewage, which the Facebook user described as foul-smelling and repelling tourists.
Three beachfront hotels had wastewater treatment systems but had released none, and another hotel’s underground water main had emerged to the surface but was not being used and had never carried wastewater.
The hotel managers were cautioned about their utilities and a sewer on the beach was to be shut off to prevent possible spills.
