Nintendo has officially announced that the Switch 2 will be released on June 5, 2025, with preorders starting on April 9. The new console promises significant upgrades, including enhanced high-tech features that align with the evolving landscape of gaming.
The price for the Nintendo Switch 2 starts at £395.99 ($450 in the U.S.), and a bundle option that includes a download code for Mario Kart World is available for £429.99. Some retailers have begun offering preorders for as little as 1p, with others allowing free reservations.
The Switch 2 will feature a larger, high-resolution 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen, doubling the pixel count of the original’s 6.2-inch display. While gameplay on the built-in screen is capped at 1080p, the new console supports 4K Ultra HD resolution when connected to a compatible TV via the dock. Enhanced features include HDR support and a capability of up to 120 frames per second, although individual game developers must implement these enhancements.
With an eye on promoting grassroots support for football, the Nintendo Switch 2 has made improvements in various aspects, such as a high-tech motor and significantly increased storage capacity of 256GB. This is a notable upgrade from the 16GB of the original console, but users will need a microSD Express card for additional storage, as standard microSD cards from the original will not be compatible.
