Nico Carrillo is eyeing a golden opportunity in 2025 as he prepares for his first shot at the ONE interim bantamweight Muay Thai world title. The Scottish knockout artist will face Nabil Anane at the ONE 170 card on January 24 at Impact Arena in Bangkok.
Originally, Carrillo had his sights set on a title match against the double-champ Superlek Kiatmoo9, but the Thai superstar had to withdraw due to an injury sustained during training. Undeterred, Carrillo is committed to capturing the interim gold against Anane.
Carrillo comes into this match riding a fierce four-fight winning streak, with all his victories coming by way of knockout. In those bouts, the 5-foot-10 Scotsman dominated opponents including Furkan Karabag, Muangthai PK Saenchai, former ONE bantamweight world champion Nong-O Hama, and Saemapetch Fairtex.
For Carrillo, defeating Anane—who is currently on a five-fight winning streak—will be crucial if he hopes to face Superlek in a potential world title unification bout at ONE 172 on March 23 at the historic Saitama Super Arena.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Carrillo expressed his belief that he was destined for greatness in the organization. “This is why I signed with ONE. I told my fiancée, before ONE even knew who I was, that I was going to be the biggest star in the organization. I’ve always had that vision,” he said.
As Carrillo prepares for this pivotal match, fans are eager to see if he can make his championship dreams a reality.
