Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his determination to pursue his war objectives following a reported drone attack on his private residence. He issued a warning that “anyone who tries to harm Israel’s citizens will pay a heavy price.”
In a post on X, Netanyahu referred to the reported assassination attempt by Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy, stating, “The attempt to assassinate me and my wife today was a grave mistake.”
According to his office, a drone was launched towards his home in the northern coastal town of Caesarea on Saturday morning. Fortunately, Netanyahu and his wife were not present during the incident, and no injuries were reported. Iranian state news agency IRNA attributed the attack to Hezbollah.
Iran’s mission to the United Nations confirmed, “The action in question has been carried out by Hezbollah in Lebanon,” though Hezbollah has yet to comment on the alleged attack.
This incident occurred as Israel braced for retaliation following a significant ballistic missile attack by Iran on October 1. Israel’s defense minister stated that their response would be “deadly, precise, and surprising.”
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that three drones were launched from Lebanon, with one drone striking a building in Caesarea. However, the IDF did not verify whether this building was indeed part of the Prime Minister’s residence, nor did they provide details on any damages incurred.
U.S. news outlet Axios reported that the drone did indeed hit Netanyahu’s residence and was fired by Hezbollah.
The IDF confirmed around 8:19 AM local time that “in the last hour, three unmanned aerial vehicles crossed into the country from Lebanon. Two of the aircraft were intercepted, while another struck a building in Caesarea, causing no injuries.”
Netanyahu has access to two private residences, in Caesarea and Jerusalem, and is also spending time at Beit Aghion, his official residence in Jerusalem, which is currently undergoing renovations.
