Nearly one-third of new Covid-19 cases found in Bangkok

Thailand reported 36 deaths from Covid-19 and 2,817 new cases on Saturday, including 315 inmates and 56 overseas travellers

Bangkok again leads the list with 925 infections, followed by 411 in Pathum Thani, 293 in Samut Sakhon, 143 in Samut Prakan and 130 in Phetchaburi.

Meanwhile, 3,396 patients have recovered and been discharged in the last 24 hours.

As of Saturday, the number of confirmed cases in Thailand had risen to 174,769. So far, 124,093 have recovered and been discharged, 49,490 patients are still in hospitals and 1,213 have died.

Separately, 90,917 people were given their first Covid-19 shot in the last 24 hours, while 90,438 people were given their second shot, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccines administered in Thailand to 4,142,944.

According to Worldometer, as of 10am on Saturday, the number of confirmed cases globally had risen to 173.31 million (up by 416,773), 156.05 million of whom have recovered, 13.54 million are active cases (88,173 in severe condition) and 3.72 million have died (up by 10,237).

Thailand ranks 80th on the global list of most cases, which is topped by the US with 34.19 million, followed by India 28.69 million, Brazil 16.84 million, France 5.7 million and Turkey 5.27 million.
