Mysterious Death of Czech National Found Beneath Telephone Signal Pole on Koh Larn
Discovery of the Body
At 11:30 a.m. on March 16, 2025, Police Lieutenant Manasak Pholyiam, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, received a report about the discovery of a foreign national’s body beneath a mobile phone signal pole on Koh Larn.
Upon receiving the report, he informed his superiors and immediately proceeded to the scene with an investigative police team, forensic officers from Chonburi’s Division 2 (Crime Scene Investigation Unit), a duty doctor from Koh Larn Hospital, The Pattaya News, and rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation in Pattaya.
Condition of the Deceased
The body was found inside the fenced area surrounding the 30-meter-tall signal pole. The deceased was identified as a 54-year-old Czech national. He was lying face up, dressed in a long-sleeved black hooded shirt, blue shorts, and gray socks. Both legs were broken, and it was estimated that he had been dead for at least 5-6 hours.
There were no visible signs of a struggle, but a backpack believed to belong to the victim was found nearby. Inside the bag, police discovered a passport, cigarettes, and a blue document envelope containing identification papers. These items were collected as evidence. The victim’s full name has been withheld to allow authorities to contact his embassy and family.
Eyewitness Account
Ms. Kalya Modthong, a 62-year-old rescue worker stationed on Koh Larn, reported that earlier that morning, a local resident found the man unconscious at the base of the signal pole. Upon her arrival, she confirmed that he was deceased and immediately secured the area before notifying the police.
Initial Investigation and Possible Cause of Death
According to Police Lieutenant Manasak Pholyiam, preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased may have climbed the signal pole and jumped, possibly indicating a suicide. Further inquiries revealed that the man had been visiting Koh Larn as a tourist. He had rented a motorcycle for three days but had not booked accommodation, instead opting to sleep in the jungle before the tragic incident.
To determine the exact cause of death, the body will be sent for a detailed autopsy at the Police Hospital. Authorities will also coordinate with his embassy to assist in the investigation.
