Morphine, cocaine, opium, to be legalised for medical use in Thailand

cocaine

Thailand is set to decriminalise 102 drugs, including morphine, opium, and cocaine, for medical use and research purposes.

A proclamation in the Royal Gazette declares that, from July 2021, the substances may be sold or used in very specific, limited circumstances.

The drugs are classified as category 2 under Thailand’s Narcotics Act and also include fentanyl and codeine.

That’s what the declaration in the Royal Gazette says HERE.

A report in Coconuts says government organisations and approved pharmacies can be granted a licence for the drugs, as well as approved professionals, such as doctors, pharmacists, dentists and veterinarians.

The drugs can only be provided for medical use or research.

The change in the law follows a similar move in 2018 that decriminalised marijuana for medical use.

The new regulation means approved organisations and individuals may obtain the drugs for the purpose of producing medical formulations or for research programmes. – Coconuts
