Money and items taken from parked van

Someone or more than one person broke into a parked van, broke one of its windows, and stole cash and other items worth about 1.2 million baht. The victims were two Chinese businessmen who had left their things in the car while they ate at a restaurant in a Pattaya shopping mall on Wednesday night.

Pol Capt Sombat Kaewmulmuk, the deputy investigation chief at Pattaya police station, said that a team of officers went to the parking lot of the shopping mall in tambon Nong Phreu, Bang Lamung district, around 9 p.m. after hearing about the theft.

At the scene, police found a Volkswagen van with plates from Bangkok. The window behind the driver’s seat was broken. The police also found a brick near the window that they think was used to break it.

The two businessmen told the cops about the items that had been stolen. Ji Biao, who is 62 years old, was one of the people who lost money. He said he lost about 12,000 yuan, which is about 60,000 baht, 100,000 Hong Kong dollars, which is about 450,000 baht, 80,000 baht in cash, and some important papers.

Ji Qing, who is 50 years old, lost 100,000 yuan, which is about 500,000 baht, HK$2,000, which is about 9,000 baht, some Malaysian ringgit, which is worth about 5,000 baht, and a Bottega Veneta bag, which is worth 150,000 baht. The money and things that were stolen were worth about 1.2 million baht all together.

At the scene, forensic officers took fingerprints to help with the probe.

Police thought that the thieves might have known where the two Chinese people were, especially since they had just come back from traveling abroad. Their friends picked them up at the airport and took them to this shopping mall for dinner. This is where the accident happened.

The police have looked at video camera footage and are looking for the people who did it.
