The Ministry of Education has issued an immediate suspension of all school-organized field trips under its jurisdiction, following a tragic accident on the Vibhavadi Rangsit highway in Pathum Thani province. The incident, which occurred yesterday, involved a double-decker bus that caught fire, resulting in the deaths of 20 students and three teachers.
Education Minister Permpoon Chidchob stated that while field trips may still be allowed if absolutely necessary, strict safety regulations must be followed. He emphasized that vehicles used for transporting students must meet safety standards, and that young children must be accompanied by their parents due to a lack of sufficient teachers to ensure proper supervision.
Acknowledging the importance of field trips in the learning process, the minister suggested they be limited to within the school’s own province. He also stressed the need for students to receive training in emergency evacuation procedures in the event of a road accident.
Regarding the loss of the three teachers in the accident, the minister assured that the Office of Primary Education Commission will oversee the compensation process for their families, alongside public donations.
All students and teachers not hospitalized or undergoing rehabilitation were safely returned to their homes in Uthai Thani province last night.
