Man Saved from Bridge After Wedding Fund Dispute in Samut Prakan
A 20-year-old Thai man in Samut Prakan was rescued from a bridge after a heated argument with his mother over wedding funds left him feeling hopeless. On March 5, the young man was seen sobbing and gripping the railing of a bridge over the Phra Ong Chao Chaiyanuchit Canal in Bang Bo district, seemingly on the verge of jumping.
Volunteer rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation quickly responded to the scene and called for backup from Bang Bo police.
Witnesses described a tense 20-minute standoff during which both rescuers and locals tried to talk the distressed man down. He repeatedly expressed his despair, stating he no longer wished to live. Upon the arrival of police, they continued efforts to persuade him, eventually convincing him to step away from the edge and move to a safer area on the bridge.
To help him recover from the intense situation and the heat, officers invited him into their patrol car before taking him to a nearby restaurant for a cold drink and a calming conversation. Once he was calmer, the man explained that his emotional breakdown was due to his inability to save enough money for his wedding. When he turned to his mother for support, he was met with rejection and scolding. Overcome with frustration, he left home on his motorcycle and headed to the bridge, contemplating ending his life, according to KhaoSod.
After receiving words of encouragement from police and rescue workers, the young man regained his composure and assured officers that he would not attempt such an act again. However, he declined to share further details with the media.
