The incident occurred near the 19th-kilometer marker on the Bangkok-bound side of the Burapha Withi (Bang Na-Bang Pakong) expressway in Tambon Bang Chalong, Bang Phli district, around 6 PM on Sunday.
Police and rescue workers found Pranee Rungsuksai with bleeding injuries to her cheek and neck. Her car was parked on Thepharat Road (Bang Na-Trat) beneath the elevated expressway. The 52-year-old woman received first aid for cuts on her right cheek and the right side of her neck before being sent to a local hospital.
Police discovered a hole in the driver’s side of the windscreen of her white Toyota car. Inside, they found a steel plate approximately 13 centimeters wide and long, and 2.5 centimeters thick.
Ms. Pranee recounted that she was driving on the elevated expressway to pick up her daughter in Bangkok. She had entered the expressway through the Bang Bo toll plaza and was driving in the middle lane, with two pickup trucks ahead of and to the right of her car. Suddenly, the steel plate penetrated the right part of her windscreen, cutting her neck and right cheek.
Ms. Pranee described being hurt and shocked but managed to calm herself. She exited the expressway, made a U-turn, parked the car, and waited for help. She noted that stones had previously hit her car and felt fortunate that the plate did not strike the center of her face in this incident.
