Love-rival shooting suspect found dead with ‘self-inflicted gunshot wounds’ in Ang Thong
Police on Tuesday found the body of a 52-year-old wanted man, with apparently self-inflicted gunshot wounds, inside his Toyota pickup truck at a roadside spot in Ang Thong’s Sawaeng Ha district.
Officers found a pistol next to the body of Mana Muenkaew and ruled his death to be suicide.
Mana was wanted under an arrest warrant for attempted murder and illegal gun possession following a gun attack the previous day on Boonsong Pongpasert, the 43-year-old secretary of Sawaeng Ha’s Tambon Wang Nam Yen administrative organisation.
Boonsong is the new boyfriend of Mana’ ex-wife Krissadaporn Thongsombat, 39.
Mana had allegedly opened fire on his love rival while Boonsong was moving kitchenware into Krissadaporn’s bakery shop in Suphan Buri’s Si Prachan district, in front of many witnesses. Boonsong, who was uninjured, had resorted to playing dead on the ground in order to avoid further gunfire and near-certain death.
The gun attack damaged the bakery and Boonsong’s SUV.
Suphan Buri police chief Pol Maj-General Khomsak Sumangkaset said an immediate investigation had identified the attacker as Mana, the father of Krissadaporn’s two children but with whom she had officially broken up more than a month ago, following months of separation.
Krissadaporn claimed that Mana had refused to give up on her after the official break-up and had kept harassing her, the police chief said.
Since Mana, who was identified as the attacker by both Boonsong and Krissadaporn and whose body was identified by Krissadaporn’s younger brother, had apparently committed suicide, police have closed the investigation, Khomsak added.
