Leicester All Smiles As Jamie Vardy Fires One In For New Boss

Team News

Leicester made two changes from the team beaten by Crystal Palace with Ben Chilwell coming in at left back for Christian Fuchs and Demarai Gray for Rachid Ghezzal. Brighton made one change to the team that lost to Burnley with Anthony Knockaert coming in for Jurgen Locadia.

Gray Opens Scoring

After nine minutes Gray justified his inclusion by finishing well after being put through by Youri Tielemans for his fourth goal of the season. A few minutes later Leicester cut through Brighton again but this time Brighton keeper Matt Ryan got down well to save from Gray after good work by Chilwell.

Schmeichel On Form

On 25 minutes Brighton’s Pascal Gross tried his luck from long range and forced a good save from Kasper Schmeichel after his shot had taken a deflection. Ten minutes later Schmeichel went down to his right and got a big right arm to Knockaert’s shot from just inside the box.

Murray Misses

Brighton had a great chance to equalise on 47 minutes when Gross backheeled to Glen Murray just outside the six-yard box. A perfect opportunity for Murry to score his 100 league goal. Instead, he blazed over the bar. Boss Chris Houghton couldn’t believe it and buried his head in his hands.

Vardy Finds The Target

Vardy fired Leicester’s second on 63 minutes after being put through by James Maddison. This calmed the nerves of Leicester fans as Brighton were more dominant and looking good for an equaliser. But on 66 minutes the nerves were back in place after Davy Pröpper fired in from just inside Leicester’s box for his first Brighton goal. As the clock ticked down Murray had another chance but could only find the side netting.

Houghton Disappointed

Brighton boss Chris Houghton would have been disappointed not to have gotten anything out of this game especially as his team dominated for long periods. It’s all smiles at Leicester now but Rodgers will know he’s got a job on his hands.
