Korean National Wanted by Interpol Arrested in Chonburi for Drug Trafficking
CHONBURI – Thai Immigration Police have arrested Lee Chun, a 51-year-old South Korean national, wanted by Interpol for his role in an international drug trafficking ring. He was taken into custody at a luxury condominium on Soi Thepprasit 9 in Jomtien, Pattaya, where authorities discovered a stash of over 150 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice), along with various tools linked to drug smuggling operations.
The arrest followed an extensive investigation led by the Thai Immigration Police and the Narcotics Control Board (NSB). Officers had been monitoring Lee Chun’s movements for several weeks before executing the raid.
Smuggling Operation Uncovered
During the search of Lee Chun’s condominium, investigators found:
- Over 150 grams of crystal methamphetamine (“ice”)
- Multiple mobile phones and GPS tracking devices
- Sophisticated packaging equipment
- Books with hidden compartments used to conceal drugs
Police believe that Lee Chun had been using these methods to smuggle drugs to South Korea, where his network was still operational. Authorities are now expanding the investigation to identify and track down his accomplices, both in Thailand and abroad.
Interpol Warrant and Overstayed Visa
Lee Chun had been hiding in Pattaya for an extended period and was found to have overstayed his visa. He is now facing multiple charges, including:
- Illegal drug trafficking
- Possession of narcotics with intent to distribute
- Visa overstay and immigration violations
Following his arrest, he was handed over to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) for further legal proceedings. Thai authorities are now working closely with Interpol and South Korean law enforcement to dismantle the wider drug trafficking network.
Thai Authorities Strengthening Crackdown on Drug Crimes
Thailand has been intensifying efforts to combat drug-related crimes, especially in popular tourist areas like Pattaya, Phuket, and Bangkok, which have long been hotspots for international fugitives.
The arrest of Lee Chun comes as part of a larger crackdown on foreign nationals using Thailand as a safe haven for illegal activities. Authorities continue to monitor, investigate, and collaborate with international agencies to prevent drug syndicates from operating within the country.
With investigations still ongoing, police urge the public to report any suspicious activities to help curb transnational crimes.
