Korean Driver Crashes Pickup, Sets Fire After Assault Incident on Highway 36
The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit in Pattaya responded to an accident involving a pickup truck on Highway 36, the Chonburi-Rayong Bypass, at kilometer marker 8+200. The vehicle, traveling towards Rayong, lost control, crashed into a guardrail, overturned, and caught fire.
Scene of the Accident
Rescue workers and motorway personnel arrived to find a bronze-silver Isuzu D-Max severely damaged and ablaze. Using chemical fire extinguishers, they contained the flames near the wheel arches before the fire could spread further. The crash left debris, including the rear axle, strewn across the roadway.
The driver, a Korean man aged approximately 35-40, was found uninjured but in a disoriented and incoherent state. He was detained by highway police and motorway rescue personnel. Authorities discovered a plastic bag containing cash inside the vehicle.
Witness Account
Mr. Chaloem Sae Jang, 49, a witness, reported that earlier, on an expressway in the Lat Krabang area, he and his wife observed the suspect attacking an unidentified woman. When they intervened, the man fled to his vehicle and sped away. Mr. Chaloem promptly informed highway police, leading to the subsequent pursuit and crash.
Authorities are investigating the incident, including the earlier assault, to determine the full circumstances and potential charges against the suspect.
