Jack Grealish Dedicates Goal to Late Brother in City’s Win Over Leicester

Jack Grealish Dedicates Goal to Late Brother in City's Win Over Leicester

Jack Grealish dedicated his goal to his late brother following a 2-0 victory for Manchester City against Leicester, a match where he scored his first Premier League goal in 16 months. The goal came on a poignant day as it marked the 25th anniversary of his younger brother Keelan’s passing due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Playing at the Etihad Stadium, Grealish found the net early in the match, just two minutes in, after a strong setup from teammates Jeremy Doku and Savinho. The win propelled City back into fourth place in the league standings.

After the match, Grealish spoke to the club’s official website, reflecting on the emotional significance of the day. “This day is always hard for the family, but I was happy to score. My mum and dad were here. So, to score and to win was brilliant.” He shared further on social media, saying, “With me always, especially this day… that was for you, Keelan.”

Manager Pep Guardiola celebrated Grealish’s performance, stating, “Jack is an incredible human being and very generous. I can’t imagine how tough this day is for him, but being with his family is good. He scored and played well, and I’m happy for him, especially since he hasn’t been playing regularly.”

Omar Marmoush added City’s second goal in the 29th minute, and they maintained control over the game against a struggling Leicester side, who remain 12 points adrift of safety.

Guardiola noted the challenge of breaking through a defense that was frequently packed with 10 players as they sought a third goal that never came. “We didn’t concede anything until near the end, so I’m pleased with the performance,” he said.

In other news, Guardiola updated the situation regarding Erling Haaland’s injury sustained in the FA Cup match against Bournemouth, stating that after receiving specialized treatment, they expect him to be out for five to six weeks.

Leicester City boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy acknowledged the dire situation of his team, which has now lost seven consecutive matches without scoring. He emphasized, however, that the fight isn’t over, saying, “Mathematically, it’s not over, and we have a responsibility to keep going,” despite knowing they face a significant challenge with only eight games left to play.
