Health authorities say the rate of Covid-19 infections in Rayong, one of the five provinces under maximum controls, is dropping.
Provincial health officials reported two new cases on Sunday, bringing the total since the outbreak began in mid-December to 564 cases.
Of these, 450 have recovered, 113 are still in hospital and only two remain in a field hospital.
Officials said that if no further surge in infections is seen, the virus situation in Rayong will soon be under control.
The two latest cases were traced from an infected van driver who went to several drinking parties and a friend’s house in Map Cha Lao On village, Klaeng district.
Meanwhile, a separate case hunt was launched after a 5-month-old infant was found infected – though its parents, close contacts and hospital staff all tested negative.
Rayong health officials are also preparing teams to screen about 8,000 migrant workers and about 300 food delivery workers at factories in the province
