The discovery of a suitcase containing human skeletal remains near a roadside in Chonburi has left local residents in shock.
At 7:06 PM, Huai Yai police received a report of the grim find near the Huai Yai Municipality road before Highway 331. Authorities, accompanied by the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation, rushed to the scene where a 32-inch suitcase was found partially hidden in a drainage ditch amidst tall grass.
Upon opening the suitcase, police discovered skeletal remains estimated to be over three months old, along with a brown crew-neck shirt, green underwear, and a white-and-pink towel. The contents were documented and sent to the Police General Hospital’s forensic institute for autopsy and identification.
Discovery of the Suitcase
The suitcase was found by two construction workers, Mr. Piraphat, 25, and Mr. Mongkol, 30. The pair stopped by the roadside after a burst tire on their vehicle, where they spotted the suitcase in the grass. Upon opening it and discovering the human remains, they immediately contacted the police.
A worker from the Department of Highways, Mr. Yothin, 33, reported that he had noticed the suitcase while working in the area on January 8 but had assumed it was discarded trash and left it untouched.
Possible Identity of the Remains
Three hours after the discovery, a family arrived at the scene claiming the remains might belong to their missing relative, Mr. Sirisak Fuengsoongnern, 56, who had been missing since November 2024.
According to his brother, Mr. Surasak, 37, the family had filed a missing person report on December 30 after Mr. Sirisak, a painter, disappeared without a trace. However, coworkers reported seeing him in Sattahip district two weeks ago, complicating the timeline of his disappearance.
Investigation Underway
Police are actively investigating the case, gathering statements from the family, coworkers, and the public. Forensic experts will conduct detailed examinations of the remains to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death.
The unsettling discovery has prompted calls for increased vigilance in the area as authorities work to unravel the mystery surrounding the suitcase and its grim contents.
