Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets in the second practice session for the Italian Grand Prix, with fellow drivers Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz following closely behind.
Hamilton clocked a time of 1:20.738, demonstrating a strong performance as he aims for success at Monza. The session began under sunny skies, with Hamilton’s Mercedes showing promising pace.
Hamilton’s teammate George Russell participated despite having to drive a car that was damaged earlier by Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The session was competitive, with several drivers making significant attempts to find the best setup.
Norris, who dominated last weekend’s Dutch GP, finished just three thousandths of a second behind Hamilton, while Sainz secured the third fastest time. Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc rounded out the top five.
The session briefly halted when Kevin Magnussen hit a barrier, but the drivers remained focused. Hamilton expressed confidence in the car’s performance, stating, “It’s been a good day. The car felt good from the start, but we need to improve on the long run.”
Max Verstappen, who has yet to secure a win in the last five races, acknowledged the challenges he faced: “We need to tidy it up a bit. It’s going to be close between a lot of cars, so hopefully we can be in that mix.”
Norris admitted to struggles early on, suggesting that the track improved for FP2, but he still has work to do in final preparations. “I think eight cars all look fast, so it should make for an exciting race tomorrow,” he said.
